Ask a college-bound junior in high school what they are most concerned about regarding the college application process and the answer will be, hands-down, writing their college application essay.

We use a personal, self-exploratory focus in a manner that does not feel intrusive to students. Students complete quick questionnaires that help us hone in on their passions, unique character traits and experiences. By doing this, we can unearth that golden nugget that will provide the basis for their college application essay.

Next, we share and discuss the formats of successful example essays. By critiquing others’ college essays with the tutor’s assistance, students can get a stronger idea of what works – and what doesn’t. After creating an outline together for the essay, the student then writes a rough draft independently. During their next tutoring session, the student and tutor go through the draft together to make suggested changes or additions. Lastly, we polish the language, tone and imagery utilized in the essay so it is ready for the student to send to colleges. Typically, college essay writing packages can be completed in about three tutoring sessions.
