For Middle and High School Teachers

Coaching and consulting: ABCDE© writing method:

Why reinvent the wheel each time a new teacher joins your ELA remedial staff for either high school or middle school? Luisa Frey can coach your writing instructors on the ABCDE© method and provide them with turnkey materials for teaching the method to their students. Additionally, Confident Learners Tutoring will supply a number of worksheets that scaffold this writing method so that educators can apply their instruction instantly. Coaching the ABCDE© method can be done one-on-one on Zoom, or alternatively, Luisa can coach a group of teachers at your school in person. (School districts are responsible for traveling costs.)

Remedial Track Coaching: Scaffolding, Increased Engagement and more

Most educators who teach general education classes must utilize scaffolding for their students who have learning differences. Confident Learners Tutoring coaches teachers on best practices for scaffolding for the subjects of English, history and science. This involves sharing some of your curriculum in order to facilitate a hands-on coaching workshop that features best practices for scaffolding. Thus, we will assist you in breaking down your curriculum and show you how to utilize support for your struggling students, yet slowly raise the bar to help them gain confidence in their skills.

Another one of our specialties is student engagement in the classroom. We are experts at incorporating interactives into the curriculum while still accomplishing skills-based, standards-based learning. One of the major ways we achieve this is through student-centered learning. From gallery walks to combining art into the classroom to show students how to concretely conceptualize symbols, we provide a wealth of ideas. Therefore, Confident Learners Tutoring can consult with your faculty on how to make their lessons more engaging for their students in order to increase learning.

“Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful ideas and organized review sheets. We’re already working on our first essay, using your ABCDE Format. The girls are enjoying the step-by-step method and I’ve modified it for 4th-5th graders while maintaining the full expectations for 7th-8th. Today, a 6th-grade student told me that, last year, she was overwhelmed when an essay was assigned because she wouldn’t know how to start or what to write. This year, she feels the process is so simple, as she knows the orders of steps and can easily flow from one sentence to the next.”
