Organizational Skills: Executive Function

Parents: Are you stressed by having to keep on top of your child’s assignments in order to make sure they are completed and handed in? Are your child’s challenges with organizational skills holding her or him back? Does she/he get overwhelmed when the schoolwork piles up and, instead of getting things done, freeze up? These situations – and more – are common for those with executive dysfunction challenges. According to ADDitude magazine, “executive function skills enable us to plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and manage multiple tasks. Up to 90 percent of kids with ADHD struggle with executive dysfunction, which impairs goal-directed behavior.”

Confident Learners Tutoring can work with your child in multiple ways to strengthen her/his executive function skills:

  • Before each tutoring session for a specific assignment or skill, we can reserve time to plan together the week ahead
  • Or, we can conduct sessions in which executive function skills are the sole focus, assessing the needs and implementing actionable steps for your child
