Writing & Research Instruction
When it comes to our unique writing instruction approach, it really is as easy as “A, B, C” (and D and E too!). When Luisa Frey transitioned from being a professional travel writer to a high school English teacher whose students have writing, reading and organizational challenges, she knew she had to come up with a visual and organized way to teach her high school students how to write essays and research papers. She created the ABCDE© pattern format of writing, which utilizes a repetitive pattern, graphic organizers and keywords to ease students into writing organized essays. Additionally, during writing instruction, she speaks the language of the ABCDE© method so that her students “own” their growth through feeling confident in their writing process.
The result? Students quickly transform from reluctant writers to those who can write college-level essays. This method has already yielded highly successful results for hundreds of middle and high school students.
This methodology is not only extremely helpful to all writers who lack confidence, but it also specifically helps those who have the following learning challenges:
- ADHD
- Dyslexia
- Executive Dysfunction
- Anxiety
We tackle all school essay assignments and empower our students to become more independent writers over time. We also teach research skills and assist students in organizing their research papers during the pre-writing phase.

“Ms. Frey has helped me improve as a writer, both by teaching me how to utilize the ABCDE format, which has made it easier to write and organize a coherent essay, and encouraging me to be more confident when writing. Going into college, I feel more prepared knowing that I have the skills to write exceptional essays.”
